FAQ

What do we do at camp?

Camp activities include cooking, hiking, crafts, games, swimming or water games, nature observation, and climbing a rock wall. Each day, girls seek a “treasure”, learn and practice outdoor skills, and best of all, HAVE FUN!

What are the hours for camp?

Monday – Friday from 9 am – 3:30 pm at Camp Liberty.  If you are riding the bus, it loads at 8:00 am and departs at 8:20 am sharp.  It returns back to the bus stop around 4:00 pm.  If you are arriving by private transportation, make sure you check in with the volunteer at the entrance to the parking lot when you arrive.

Where does the Northwest Bank Tower (Northpark) bus meet?
Meet at the Northwest Bank Tower parking lot on the southeast side of Northpark Mall Northwest Bank Tower, 100 E Kimberly Rd, Davenport.

Where does the Old Hobby Lobby bus meet?
Hobby Lobby has moved, but we will continue to meet at its old location across from the Duck Creek Golf Course by Ross College, 2121 Kimberly Rd in Bettendorf.

How are units organized?

By color, of course!

When assigning girls to units, we first look at buddy requests.  Buddies who have requested each other will be put in the same unit.  We prefer you don’t specify a buddy so that your Girl Scout can Make New Friends!  We always put at least two girls from the same troop together in a unit, but we do split up entire troops into different units.

When you arrive at camp, look for the unit leader with your flag color!  You will be notified of your color with a confirmation letter and by email around the middle of May.  The colors designate age-level progression through camp skills and activities.

What are the requirements for being a PA at camp?

  1. Be entering 8th grade or above in the fall following camp.
  2. Have taken official Girl Scout Basic and Outdoor PA training.
  3. Have completed the two years of “Blue Unit” preparation at Day Camp or have other comparable outdoor experience and training.
  4. An enthusiastic attitude.
  5. Tireless energy!

Why do we have an overnight during Day Camp?
To give girls a chance to spend the night at camp, especially those who may not have had the opportunity to participate in overnight camping with their troop. Please make sure that your girl wants to stay overnight and that you have discussed the outdoor overnight environment with her.

How old do I have to be for the overnight?
Girls eligible for overnight are those entering 5th grade and above. Girls will sleep in outdoor cabins (ex. Prairie’s Edge, Outback, T-Pass).  Older girls will camp in tents down by the lake on the years they do their Trailblazer Badge.

What is the cost of the overnight?
$20 (not included in the original camp fee because it is optional for older girls only) is for dinner, breakfast, lodging, and programming (perhaps archery, canoeing, zip line, high ropes – depending on volunteer availability).

What do I bring for the overnight?
On the morning of the overnight, send the following:

  • sleeping bag or bedroll
  • flashlight
  • change of clothes
  • pajamas
  • toothbrush and toothpaste
  • washcloth and hand towel, soap.

Please pack in duffel bags or backpacks.  Putting the sleeping bag in a plastic garbage bag with camper’s name and grade/unit on tape outside helps to keep them dry.

If the weather is bad, is camp canceled?

Please come prepared for the weather. Camp will be held UNLESS a cancellation is announced on our website, www.conestogadaycamp.com, and through a mass text from our REMIND account.

Please dress your camper for the weather.  Layers are always appropriate. Shoes should be closed-toe and heel. NO SANDALS! T-shirts with short sleeves or longer – NO Tank/Halter/Tube TOPSWe’re in the woods, so long pants are advised, but shorts are OK.  It will be cooler than in direct sun most of the day as the camp is amidst the shade trees. Send rain gear every day.  No umbrellas, please.

What do I bring to camp?

Bring a small backpack or bag with the following items each marked with your camper’s name:

  • refillable water bottle
  • mess kit OR a non-breakable plate, cup, fork, and spoon
  • a mesh bag with a drawstring to hang dishes on a line (a lingerie bag from the Dollar Store works well – bring clothespin if there is no string)
  • something to sit on (sit-upon or bleacher cushion—chairs are too heavy to carry around)
  • hat or bandana (girls will be given a bandana on the first day of camp)
  •  raincoat or poncho (small emergency rain poncho from Dollar Store or Target is just $1)
  •  sunblock and bug spray (non-aerosol – everyone must have their own)
  • spare mask in Ziploc bag
  • hand sanitizer

Monday only – a sack lunch (only drink needed is a water bottle – sugary drinks attract bugs)

If I am paying by check, where do I send it?

Make Checks Payable to Conestoga Day Camp and mail to:

  • Conestoga Day Camp
  • 4617 El Rancho Dr
  • Davenport IA 52806
